Project/Unit Description The Electro-Optical Infrared Systems Division (EISD) performs research in all areas of the imaging chain. From basic geometric/radiometric modeling and analysis, through design and fabrication, to test and evaluation in the field, our team provides subject matter expertise to our customers in order to solve their most challenging problems in undersea, ground, airborne, and space domains. EISD is a collection of multi-discipline engineers and scientists encompassing optical, physics, mechanical, electrical, computer, and software domains, among others. Our portfolio consists of research programs in and related to: Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); Undersea Warfare; Atmospheric Optics; Tactical Imaging, e.g. Degraded Visual Environments (DVE); Automatic Target Recognition; Intelligence Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED); Free-space Optical Communications; Space Situational Awareness (SSA); Tagging, Tracking, and Locating (TTL); LIDAR; Remote Sensing; etc. Job Purpose The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer is responsible for the development and support of state-of-the-art algorithms involving data fusion, sensor fusion, machine learning, manned/unmanned avionics improvement programs, and genetic programming. The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer focuses on the design, analysis, software/hardware implementation, optimization, profiling, and experimental evaluation of computer algorithms, bridging the gap between algorithm theory and practical applications of algorithms in software engineering. Additionally, the Algorithm & Analysis Engineer conducts statistical analysis of multi-modal and time-varying data to characterize and quantify system qualities and deficiencies, resulting in recommendations and development of improvements. Key Responsibilities Perform data cleaning and fundamental data analysis using existing tools with senior guidance Execute algorithm tests in accordance with direction from senior researchers Contribute to algorithm design discussions Design and/or modify aspects of algorithm design and implementation with oversight from senior researchers Contribute to technical report execution with oversight from senior researchers Interface and conduct work with disparate engineering teams Contribute with regular oversight when tasked to execute specific technical and writing objectives in the service of conference presentations and journal publications Aid in literature searches with direction from senior researchers Required Minimum Qualifications Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than August 2025 Experience implementing algorithms using one or more of the following: C, C++, C# Experience developing algorithms and analyzing data in both Python & Matlab Experience working with teams on software projects, including common tools/techniques (e.g. CI pipelines, unit testing, data visualization, version control) Familiarity with software design patterns Experience with signal processing, filtering, estimation, and fusion Experience training, validating, and testing AI/ML algorithms Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance Preferred Qualifications Active Secret Clearance Masters Degree inAerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Imaging Science, or other related discipline Experience implementing and extending algorithms in recent research publications Experience in Robotics or Robot Operating System Experience with architecting complex software systems Experience with high-speed image and/or signal processing techniques, especially with GStreamer and NVIDIA DeepStream software development kit (SDK) Experience (scripting) in Linux, Red hat, Ubuntu or similar Experience building and deploying software on edge computing devices (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson) Experience in Modeling and Simulation (M&S) of optical systems, radar systems, communications systems, or electronic warfare systems Experience with Active/Passive Electro-optical (EO)/Infrared (IR) sensors - lidar, radar, Hyperspectral Imagers, SWIR/MWIR cameras – and using SDKs or APIs Experience in analysis of complex algorithms and systems Experience with AR/VR/XR devices Familiarity with system networking Familiarity with embedded and/or software defined radios Travel Requirements Education and Length of Experience This position vacancy is an open-rank announcement.The final job offerwill be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty Extension Professional ranks as outlined in section 3.2.1 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook 0-5+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Imaging Science, or other related discipline. 0-3+ years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Imaging Science, or other related discipline. 0 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Imaging Science, or other related discipline.
