Job Description

As the store manager, you are responsible for the overall management of your store. You deliver sales goals year-over-year by motivating, developing, and empowering your team. You hold your store team accountable for providing exceptional customer service. You recruit, select and develop the best talent for your store. You ensure operational excellence in your store to maximize sales and profitability. Essential Functions 1. Deliver and grow sales and other business metrics year-over-year 2. Optimize every sales opportunity by ensuring the store team consistently executes merchandising strategies, operations, loyalty programs and other company initiatives 3. Recruit, select, onboard and develop high-caliber talent through training, coaching and assignments 4. Mentor and motivate staff and hold them accountable to drive sales and enthusiastically model our standards of behavior and culture 5. Create a culture of proactive customer engagement to exceed our customer’s expectations 6. Control inventory, expense and payroll and hold the store team accountable to do the same 7. Provide consistent communication and model expected behaviors to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures 8. Evaluate employee performance and proactively address any issues 9. Investigate and effectively resolve customer and employee issues keeping in line with our Standards of Behavior 10. Maintain facility conditions and take immediate action to correct and ensure the best customer experience 11. Performs all other duties as requested or directed Requirements Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 1. Exceptional customer service skills 2. Professional attitude and appearance at all times 3. Excellent communication and negotiation skills 4. Strong decision making, communication and merchandising skills 5. Ability to build rapport and long-term relationships 6. Well-organized and detail-oriented with all guest services 10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 11. Required to stand, walk, and lift items (up to 50 lbs.) on a regular basis 12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree and three to five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience managing a bookstore is preferred. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The key physical requirements of this position include the ability to walk and stand for an extended period of time, lift up to 50 pounds or team lift objects up to 50 lbs., with or without assistance, use of standard kitchen and office equipment including computers, and able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job. Position Type & Expected Hours of Work This is a regular, full-time, exempt position. Days and hours will vary to include evening and weekend work according to business needs.
