Description NOTE: THIS JOB POSTING WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL ALL POSITIONS ARE FILLED. The at SIUE is accepting applications for multiple temporary Grounds Workers. The Grounds Worker spends a substantial amount of time trimming, dethatching, aerating lawns and fields, and seeding and sodding, on all University properties. This position will maintain athletic fields/artificial turf, mark out boundaries, paint team logos, and remove trash /recycle material. Additionally, the Grounds Worker will assist in tree planting; trimming of hedges, shrubs and small trees; and removing dead, damaged or unwanted trees as needed. The Grounds Worker will also help plant flowers, trees, and shrubs; water lawns, trees and landscapes; and handle removal of nuisance animals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: - Remove of concrete/asphalt and debris while repairing and maintaining secondary roads/parking areas.
- Cleans streets, walks, drains, catch basins/outdoor areas.
- Weed and mulch landscape beds.
- Trash pick-up around campuses.
Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department's mission and goals.
Work Schedule: Positions will begin approximately in mid-April and run through mid-October. Hours will be 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one or combination totaling six (6) months from the categories below:
- Coursework or vocational training in horticulture, landscaping, or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- Fifteen (15) semester hours equals six (6) months
- Work experience in grounds maintenance, landscape maintenance, nursery, agriculture work, grounds construction, and/or tending to lawns, turfs, trees, flowers, bushes or other shrubberies, ornamental plants, and other grounds-related work.
- Valid/current driver's license as required by the State of Illinois for the type of motor vehicles(s) to be operated by the incumbent.

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university, and it's important to highlight that benefits from state-sponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
