Summary of Position The Director of Aerospace Manufacturing provides strategic leadership and oversight for aerospace manufacturing programs and the Opportunity Now grant, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and grant objectives. This includes managing the fiscal and operational aspects of the grant, leading the development of innovative programs in aerospace—covering manufacturing, engineering, and data science—as well as other sectors such as energy and quantum technology. The Director spearheads the research, production, and development of these programs, positioning the college as a regional leader in workforce development for the sector. The Director also serves as the lead point of contact for the El Camino Community College partnership, contributing to the collaborative Space and Cybersecurity Talent Development Center concept, and works closely with division leadership and the college President to align aerospace and quantum industry partnerships. The Director leads a team, ensures grant compliance, and reports progress to stakeholders, while fostering strong external partnerships to address industry needs. The position also plays a key role in institutional leadership, engaging with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to grow workforce development programs across departments and contribute to the college’s broader strategic goals. This position is grant-funded and contingent upon continued funding with an anticipated funding schedule of at least three years. A successful candidate possesses knowledge of and experience within the aerospace industry, and is at ease with the following: Strategic Leadership: Leads the development and management of aerospace manufacturing programs, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and grant objectives. Industry Partnership and Collaboration: Serves as the lead point of contact for key partnerships, including the El Camino Community College collaboration and aerospace/quantum industry alignment. Program Development and Innovation: Spearheads the research, production, and development of innovative programs in aerospace, energy, and quantum technology, positioning the college as a regional leader in workforce development. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of the Aerospace Industry and industry segments. Ability to develop and cultivate industry partner relationships. Knowledge of the policies and procedures governing research funding in an academic environment, including knowledge of OMB circulars, cost principles, and indirect cost rates. In-depth understanding of federal, state, and private funding sources, regulations, and compliance requirements for aerospace manufacturing grants. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to use data to inform decision-making and make recommendations. Ability and skill with data analysis, visualization, or management software. Proven ability to work in and build successful teams. Ability to effectively interact and build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to guide activities to meet grant defined outcomes and deliverables. Ability to travel to meet with, and network regional leaders in the aerospace and manufacturing industries. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and two years relevant experience, or a master’s degree, or any equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience. Three years’ relevant experience which includes experience within the Aerospace or Advanced Manufacturing or closely related industries. Supervision or leadership experience. Physical & Cognitive Demands The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position. Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs. This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc. The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills. May be required to work out of any RRCC campus location. Regular after-hours or weekend work required. Some occasional local, regional, and/or national travel may be required. Starting salary range for this position is $98,659 – $108,525 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position.
