Job Description

Position Description:

The Safety Specialist ensures that all employees complete their work safely. This individual oversees all safety standards and verifies they are being followed based on company requirements. The specialist collaborates with plant leadership to create, implement, and audit safety plans. Specialists also monitor working conditions and resolve any safety issues that may arise. Notably, the role supports establishing a process-based safety culture owned by every employee and built on the belief that every incident is preventable.

• Create and implement safety plans while ensuring they are being followed daily

• Conduct safety observation reports regularly

• Attend safety walks and inspections regularly to analyze safety risks

• Educate employees on safety standards and expectations

• Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace

• Ensures investigation of all HSE-related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence

Requirements:

• College degree or equivalent experience required

• Proven ability to interact with and provide insight to all levels; from business leaders to floor associates when leading and encouraging company initiatives and work practices

• Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, and auditor safety software

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking

• Understanding of federal, state, and city safety requirements, including OSHA regulations

• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and priorities

• Interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and plant leaders

• Leadership skills such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback

• Must demonstrate logical or scientific-like thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

• Five or more years of experience in safety, operations, or related experience preferred
