JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED equivalent, plus specialized schooling or combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE: One-two years in telecommunications and fiber optics construction, drop construction and fiber splicing required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Must be familiar with fiber optics design and architectures including splitter and connectivity models. General knowledge of electric overhead and underground plant is beneficial. Extensive knowledge of GIS applications and geodatabases is required. Must have the ability to trace fiber optics connectivity through multiple splice and splitter locations. Must have the ability to read and follow maps. Background in home construction/remodeling is beneficial.

MAJOR JOB TASKS:

  • Fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical).
  • Fiber optic troubleshooting, including OTDR and light meter readings.
  • Perform construction related duties including buried and aerial drops and network extensions.
  • Use Interpersonal skills for interaction with customers for installation requirements and issue resolution.
  • Supervise and perform quality control of external drop and splicing contractors.
  • Be able to work from heights including pole, ladder, and bucket truck.
  • Work with electronic maps and document and maintain records of work performed.
  • Operate company vehicles safely.
  • Aerial and Underground maintenance of fiber optic lines.
  • Preserves confidentiality of company issues when relating to staff, customers, and general public.
  • Supports the Bylaws, guidelines, policies, and philosophies of the company at all times.
  • Supports the Mission Statement and Core Values at all times.

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Contractors: Supervise assigned drop construction contractors working on the system at any given time. To request and provide assistance as required and to confer on problems as required to maintain efficient and effective systems.
  • Subscribers: To support and assist subscribers to access the network.
  • To be a team player and maintain good relations in all contacts with the general public.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Class A CDL. Must be able to operate all equipment normally found in an office environment. Must have valid driver's license without violation, which would prohibit insurability. Must have experience operating bucket trucks and trenching or plowing equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to build drops to OzarksGo specifications and convey these specifications to drop contractors. Must have general PC abilities including Microsoft Office and tablet operating skills. Must be able to operate and navigate electronic maps.
  • Must work in inclement weather. Normal office/field conditions. Some irregular hours may be required. Frequent daytime travel across the entire service territory for installation inspection and subscriber and landowner issues. Occasional overnight travel may be required. After an offer of employment has been made, a physical examination is required which will include drug testing

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires the ability to sit, bend, stoop, or stand, as necessary. Will require extended periods of sitting and use of a keyboard and computer. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus.
