The Public Health Technician performs complex multidisciplinary public health safety and sanitation studies, inspections, and investigations to enforce federal laws and regulations and protect the health and safety of the population at risk. Duties include conducting routine inspections to prevent or eliminate environmental and sanitation health hazards; regulating food facilities, drinking water programs, MWR/gyms, barber/beauty shops, food and bottled water receipt of goods and storage areas, MRE’s ablution units, and chemical latrines; enforcing health and safety laws and regulations; preparing and maintaining records of inspections; gathering evidence and recommending corrective actions; updating and maintaining files, records, and other documents; presenting community outreach programs; educating the population at risk; responding to public health complaints; assisting with influenza vaccination outreach and campaign; responding to communicable disease and foodborne illness outbreaks; providing consultation and recommendations; referring issues beyond scope to supervisor; addressing public health concerns; recording and maintaining patient information; identifying signs and symptoms of physical and mental conditions; exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making; making independent judgments and prioritizing workload; performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications include completion of an accredited public health program or related military technical school training, preferred bachelor's degree in related fields, at least one year of experience in food and drink establishment inspection, Registered Sanitarian credential preferred, Servsafe Instructor and Proctor Course completion required before deploying, current Basic Life Support certification preferred, knowledge of sanitation practices and food safety laws, ability to multi-task and communicate effectively, proficiency with computers and MS Office, adaptability to work changes, strong problem-solving skills, current clinical experience in direct patient care, valid U.S. Driver’s License and Passport, English proficiency, favorable CNACI investigation, and signing of International Assignment Agreement. Physical requirements include medical and dental fitness confirmation, work involving prolonged sitting and standing, typical office environment with travel to Kwajalein by air.
