Description of Work Unit: The CEE Department at CSU is recognized both nationally and internationally for its research, education, and service and outreach programs. Position Summary: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University seeks a highly motivated Research Scientist to work under the supervision of Prof. Ryan Bailey. The Research Scientist will be responsible for constructing, calibrating, testing, and applying coupled surface-subsurface hydrologic models for estimating groundwater use and land subsidence in multiple regions of the world. The application should have experience with Python, Fortran, and hydrologic models such as MODFLOW, SWAT, and SWAT+. The Research Scientist will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities at Colorado State University and will get an opportunity to work alongside graduate students, postdocs, and other research scientists from various backgrounds and diverse cultural ethnicity. Required Job Qualifications Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Hydrological Sciences, or a related field by the date of hire. Must have demonstrated competency in programming and coding and ability to handle and organize large datasets. Must have experience with constructing, calibrating, and applying hydrologic models such as MODFLOW, SWAT, SWAT+, etc. Must have demonstrated experience publishing high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific papers in the field of hydrologic modeling. Preferred Job Qualifications Experience with SWAT - MODFLOW or SWAT+ with the gwflow module. Prior experience with estimating groundwater use. Demonstrated experience working in collaborative research settings. Job Duties Research Responsibilities (80%) Construct hydrologic models in a timely fashion over large regions. Develop methodology to estimate models parameters. Perform uncertainty analysis and sensitivity analysis for each constructed model. Use hydrologic models to estimate water supply and the impact of groundwater pumping on land subsidence. Prepare and submit scientific publications. Prepare and present scholarly presentations. Participate in grant writing. Supervision and Management Responsibilities (20%) Supervision and training of research associates. Organize research meetings with collaborators. Coordinate the integration of data sources. Communicate with relevant agency personnel.
