Staff Accountant

A company in Reading, PA is looking for a Staff Accountant to join their team. This position will report to the office 5 days a week and the salary range is $70-75k, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare journal entries and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, including items such as restricted funds, grants, and endowments
• Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes
• Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and other financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner
• Prepare financial reports, trend analyses, and dashboards for internal departments and senior leadership
• Support variance analysis, budget monitoring, and fund balance tracking for both operational and restricted accounts
• Assist in building out Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function
• Assist with audit preparation, including preparing lead schedules, documentation, and liaising with external auditors
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional financial reporting regulations, including Uniform Guidance for federal grants
• Utilize and support ERP system (Sage Intacct) to maintain data integrity and improve financial reporting workflows
• Recommend improvements to accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls
• Support special projects, policy updates, and implementation of best practices in accounting and reporting

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required
• 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience; higher education or nonprofit sector strongly preferred
• Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of nonprofit GAAP and fund accounting principles
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, data analysis tools)
