Public Relations and Communications Internship (Summer 2025) 

VVK PR + Creative is looking for a Summer Intern to complete a part-time, three-month learning and professional development experience from Mid-May through August 2025 that will help them gain important skills as you pursue a future career in the public relations field. 

COMPENSATION AND HOURS  

This is a part-time, up to 30 hours/week role and the intern accepted into the program will be paid $13/hr. We will also consider granting course credit if your university/program allows it.

*Schedules and hours are flexible depending on class schedules, but the Intern will be expected to work in person in our Detroit office.

ABOUT THE TEAM  

VVK PR + Creative is an independent, integrated communications firm based in Detroit. We help brands define themselves with strategic and creative communications services. We are a team of 30 PR strategists, digital media specialists and video producers, who implement comprehensive campaigns that achieve results for our dynamic client base. VVK serves clients in industries including automotive, energy, insurance, IT, agriculture, legal, retail, media, nonprofit and real estate.  

ABOUT THIS ROLE  

As a VVK Intern, you will spend three months working with our public relations account teams to support key client engagements and experience professional development and networking opportunities with the entire VVK team. Our VVK Intern will work part-time in a hybrid office environment and will experience the communications profession as a member of our account teams and in front of key clients. You will create impact, develop your portfolio, engage with top professionals, bill time, and work hard. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

Public relations: 

• Support PR initiatives for a minimum of two assigned clients 
• Assist in organizing and executing media events 
• Develop and maintain target media contact lists 
• Monitor news alerts for accounts and share information across team 
• Monitor media outlets for coverage of client news and competitor developments 
• Track media placements and develop media recap reports and presentations 

Writing: 

• Assist with the writing, proofreading and editing of compelling media materials, award entries, bios, case studies and other marketing and PR content 

Marketing: 

• Help to develop e-newsletter distribution lists. 
• Provide support for client special events and assist in coordinating event logistics. 

Video production: 

• Participate in video shoots to understand production aspects of PR 

Meetings: 

• Participate in client meetings 
• Attend regularly scheduled check-ins with intern coordinator 
• Contribute to weekly PR coordinator calls to stay updated on agency-wide initiatives 

WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO IS OR HAS:  

• A strong desire to learn PR at a creative agency and develop your professional skills and habits.
• Studying communications, Public Relations and/or marketing. 
• Intellectually curious and with ambitions to pursue a career in PR/Marking/Communications in the future. 
• Strong writing skills to support all communications disciplines. 
• Can thrive in a fast-paced multitasking environment. 
• Strong attention to detail that allows thoroughness and accuracy in your work. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of company staff, clients, and vendors.  
• Willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and contribute to team goals as needed.
• A team player with the ability to work well with a diverse group of professionals. 

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?  

We hope, a lot. You will learn about companies and non-profits based and working in Michigan and across the country. You’ll better understand strategies that we deploy to communicate our clients’ work to their audiences while strengthening your writing and project management skills. You’ll network with clients and colleagues and hopefully come to love Detroit as much as our team does.
