TITLE: Patient Transporter JOB OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for assisting with expedient and professional care and throughput to include escort, transport, and other duties as assigned. DEPARTMENT: Central Transport WORK HOURS: Variable REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager/Asst. Nurse Manager PREREQUISITES:

  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Washington as a Certified Nursing Assistant required.

  • AHA BLS for healthcare providers required.

  • One (1) year patient care experience, preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within scope of practice.

  • Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form.

  • Demonstrates effective relational skills in a diverse population.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional developments of all age groups.

  • Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:

  • Requires working as part of the team at the direction of the CAR/leadership to ensure efficient patient flow.

  • Transport/escort patients via appropriate transport equipment along with all support equipment as necessary, i.e., IV pumps, oxygen tanks. Uses IV pole safety devices on stretchers and/or obtains appropriate help with difficult transports.

  • Answers phone courteously and responds to calls promptly.

  • Assist staff with patient positioning and movement.

  • Available via telephone, text, or Epic Rover, prompt response expected.

  • Demonstrates ability to use portable phone.

  • Knowledge of and adherence to isolation precautions.

  • Communicates with primary RN or Charge RN when picking up and dropping off patients.

  • Reports the following to the Registered Nurse (RN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR):

  • Significant signs and symptoms as directed by the RN or LPN.

  • Observations in changes in patient condition (such as, but not limited to, level of consciousness or mobility, breathing pattern, skin color, pain, difficulty swallowing, new wound drainage, decreased output, etc.).

  • Equipment that is alarming or malfunctioning.

  • Concerns related to patient or family behavior or emotional status or problems with patient compliance to care.

  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to:

  • (Code Blue) Cardiac/pulmonary arrest

  • (Code Gray) Psychiatric emergencies

  • Demonstrates safe use of patient care equipment.

  • Demonstrates understanding of the developmental/behavioral characteristics of ages served:

    • Neonate

    • Child

    • Adolescent

    • Adult

    • Geriatric (older adult)
